The National Institute of Mental Health identifies psychotherapy (also known as talk therapy) as "a term for a variety of treatment techniques that aim to help a person identify and change troubling emotions, thoughts, and behavior. Most psychotherapy takes place with a licensed and trained mental health care professional and a patient meeting one on one or with other patients in a group setting."

I do provide virtual sessions, and my license allows me to work with individuals residing in California.

Therapy can be for anyone. Some things that make a person more successful in treatment is the willingness to engage in the process, do the work to change behaviors, and stay consistent. If you’re still not sure, please feel free to contact me.
How do I know I’m ready for therapy?
I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation. Based on that call, you can decide whether you’d like to schedule your first appointment with me. Most people have a good sense of whether I am the right therapist to help them within the first two sessions. The relationship between you and your therapist is one of the biggest influences on your success in therapy, so take your time and find the right fit!
How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?
All counseling services are confidential. This means that no information is released to individuals outside the therapy session without the client's consent. There are certain exceptions to this rule, as permitted by law. Therapists are required by law to disclose information to protect a client or a specific individual identified by the client from “serious and foreseeable harm.” This includes disclosures that the client is a threat to self or others, that a child or elder person is being abused, and in rare cases, if subpoenaed to testify in court.
How do I know I can trust you? Are you going to share what I disclose to anyone else?
I accept several insurance at this time, and can also provide a superbill if I am Out of Network for your particular insurance. A superbill is a document that includes information about the service provided, including a diagnosis, to justify a claim made to your insurance company. As every insurance company is different, I encourage you to contact the number on the back of your insurance card to verify whether they will accept superbills. If you need some assistance, please let me know. I am happy to help you learn about and access the Out of Network benefits that may be available to you.
Do you accept insurance?
I require 24 hours notice of cancellation or you will be charged for the appointment. An occasional exception may be made in the case of an emergency. It’s important that we meet consistently in order to make progress.
What is your cancellation policy?
One therapy session is typically 50-55 minutes long.
How long is one therapy session?
After a brief review of paperwork, I will ask questions that will help me get to know you, the situation that brings you in, and the context in which the situation is occurring. While I begin to understand the problem, you’ll also get to know how I work. This will be a great time to see how you feel with me in the room. Do I seem like someone you can trust? The therapeutic relationship is one of the biggest factors in predicting success in therapy, so please make sure that this is a good fit for you. Lastly, we will discuss how we will achieve the changes you wish to see.
What should I expect at the first session?
Treatment duration depends on our ability to understand the core issues and your commitment to using what you learn to bring about the changes you wish to see. Consistency is key. Every session I will be working to give you the skills to render my services unnecessary.
